WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
MediArchive is an automated video cassette digitization solution, designed by EKTACOM, based on Sony Flexicart robotics. MediArchive is the solution for any company that needs to perpetuate or enhance its audiovisual heritage.
THE EKTACOM SOLUTION: A MODULAR DEVICE
MediArchive consists of a Sony Flexicart robotic cabinet that houses cassettes in slots as well as tape drives. Thus equipped, the cabinet is connected on the one hand to a PLC (Console Manager) responsible for controlling the Flexicart and the tape readers, and on the other hand to the encoders (Stream2Sync) for digitizing the media. This modular system is configurable and adaptable.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
SONY FLEXICART
Cabinet that can accommodate up to 3 VCRs. It has an arm for loading/unloading VCR cassettes and
a barcode reader to identify the inserted cassettes.
MANAGER CONSOLE
Supervises the Sony Flexicart to move cassettes from the cassettes to the VCRs (and vice versa) and controls the encoders to assign them a digitization task.
STREAM2SYNC
Digitizes and encodes audio and video with frame-level accuracy. It continuously polls the tape drive for possible defects when reading media (Channel Conditions).
DIGITAL VIDEOS
Once the audio/video file
digitized, it is transferred by FTP to a NAS. It is accompanied by an XML file containing a list of errors detected on the cassette.
